Implementation of a Fast Link Rate Adaptation Algorithm for WLAN Systems

With a target to maximize the throughput, fast link rate adaptation algorithm for IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac is proposed, which basically preamble based and can adaptively compensate discrepancy between transmitter receiver radio frequency performances by exploiting acknowledgment signal. The system 1 × wireless local area network chip with no null data packet or sounding. be supplemented automatic fallback at initial phase further expedite adaptation. receives channel coefficients previous information, translates them amended signal-to-noise ratios, then, via mean mutual selects modulation coding scheme maximum throughput. Extensive simulation tests are carried out demonstrate validity of proposed adaptive preamble-based in comparison both popular ideal throughput gain over demonstrated various transmission intervals Doppler frequencies. ARF 46% (15%) 1-tap (3-tap) 10 m–250 m (16 m–160 m) normalized Assuming 3-tap 30 m–50 frequencies, about 31 Mbps, nearly same as that adaptation, whereas 24 leading 30% ARF. firmware implemented C on Xilinx Zynq 7020 (Xilinx, San Jose, CA, USA) tests.
